Extreme Makeover Home Edition

We are so proud to have recently participated in the Extreme Makeover Home Edition here in Knoxville. As part of a crew of thousands, our team helped several other landscape companies construct landscape elements including a retaining wall, steps and pavers. This is by no means an easy task, given the volume of work, limited time and scattered resources.

EXTREMEVOLUNTEERS_719658474292

Seven of our team members spent their free time on Sunday working through the cold morning temperatures for this great cause. We are so proud to have a team that is willing to do that for someone else. It speaks volumes to their character.

What impressed us most about the build is the way people were working together, on all levels. In just our small part of the project, we had five landscape companies working hand-in-hand. It would be easy to dismiss this cooperation, but I kept reminding myself that these are the companies we traditionally compete with and it was nice to take the gloves off for a while and do something good together.

A Chistmas Landscaping Poem

Twas the days before Christmas and all through the K-town
Our crews were hard working, on projects around.
The pavers are placed on the sand with great care,
With thoughts of the gatherings soon to be there.

Our workers all dressed in their warm winter gear,
With visions of finishing up for the year.
Our work has been stellar, our books in the black,
We’re proud to be moving down the right track.

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
A foreman sprang forward to see what was the matter.
A homeowner cried out in such great distress,
“What will I do, my yard’s such a mess.”

The sun casting shadows on plants without leaves,
Gave no luster to homeowners clearly in need.
When what to their wandering eyes did appear,
But Doug in a truck with landscapers and gear.

An experienced crew so lively and quick,
They knew in a moment this would do the trick.
More rapid than eagles they planted and raked,
The foreman encouraged them all by their names.

Now Albert, Now Brian, Now Mattthew and James,
On Michael, On Jamie, on Robert the same!
To the back of the yard! To the foot of the door.
Now Landscape, Landscape, Landscape some more.

The Bobcat did growl, the diesels did hum,
This warm winter weather lets much work get done.
A homeowner that’s happy is always the plan,
With the details and fine tuning all done by hand.

The crew finished up, so tidy and fast,
They loaded the gear and the tools in a flash.
But I heard them exclaim as they rolled out of site,
“Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!”

Hey Baseball Fans!

Are you thinking about going to a baseball game this year? If you head to Kodak to see the Tennessee Smokies play, you’ll be walking all over us, literally. We recently completed a concrete paver installation at the ballpark, highlighting some of our technical paver installation. When you walk into the park, you’ll see giant ‘TS’ team logos at the first and third base entrances to the park.

Working with local paver manufacturer Belgard, we installed custom colored pavers to match the iconic team logo. Using CAD layout and a template marking system our team was able to replicate the logo exactly. This process can be used in any paver application (is your brain working). Maybe your business entrance needs some enhancement. Perhaps we can put your family crest in your driveway. The possibilities are literally endless.

Take in a baseball game and check out our paver installation work. Follow us on Twitter @wildwoodland and like us on Facebook. We’ll be giving out tickets all season long, so keep up with us and we hope to see you at the ballpark!

Vegetable Gardens

Are you thinking about growing your own vegetables this year?  Do you have your garden planned?  We’re thinking about it already, so here are a few things to keep in mind.

  • Make sure there is a water source close by
Keep it simple (you probably won’t need every vegetable known to man).
Pavers make great edges to keep grass from creeping in
Raised gardens take some of the stress off of your lower back
Mulch is great under vegetables once they begin to grow
Winter is a great time to amend the soil, add compost or mulch to soil now.
Many plants require different planting times.
  • Check out more great advice from HGTV here.

Proper planning will take the stress out of spring planting. You can start seedlings now and transplant them when the time is right. Used plastic cups make great little green houses, and then recycle them when you are done. Let Wildwood help you construct the ideal planting area. It can be as simple as clearing a level area to construction of raised beds. Either way, we would love to help you get your garden ready for planting.
